Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, an Inner Line Permit (ILP) is an official travel document issued by the Government of India that is strictly mandatory for Indian citizens from other states to enter Arunachal Pradesh. You do not need to worry, as our team will process the ILP for you in advance. We will simply need your ID proofs and passport-size photographs.
While visiting Gompas and Monasteries, visitors must dress modestly (covering shoulders and knees). You must remove your shoes before entering the main prayer hall (Lhakhang). Always walk clockwise around Chortens and prayer wheels. Do not touch sacred artifacts, and ask your guide before taking photographs inside the altars.
Founded in 1681 by Merak Lama Lodre Gyatso according to the wishes of the 5th Dalai Lama, Tawang Monastery (Galden Namgey Lhatse) is the largest monastery in India and the second largest in the world. It is a central spiritual hub for the Gelug school of Mahayana Buddhism.
Tawang is situated at 10,000 ft, which is usually fine for most travelers, especially since you will acclimatize in Dirang (4,900 ft) the day before. However, the journey involves crossing Sela Pass at 13,700 ft. It is advisable to stay hydrated and avoid heavy physical exertion during the pass crossing.
While this itinerary focuses heavily on the Buddhist Circuit and monasteries, a trip to Bumla Pass (Indo-China Border) can certainly be added to Day 5. It requires a special military permit and a local union vehicle, which our team can arrange for an additional direct payment.
